Should You Think About Wooden Flooring?

Wooden flooring could almost be seen as a new product considering how many improvements there have been in recent years. However, many people don't even consider a wooden floor, regardless of all the advantages. Due to many old misconceptions, some which were true but are no longer, and some that really never were, lots of folks dismiss wooden floors outright. Let's see what's changed by taking a look at some of those old ideas.

Is Wooden Flooring Difficult To Maintain?

Wooden floors may have been hard to maintain in the past, but not any longer. Newer wooden flooring by high quality manufacturers is made for refinishing, but it's rarely necessary. When it comes down to it, even cheap wood floors are easily kept looking good by using area rugs and floor protectors underneath furniture. The only enemy of the wooden floor that's not fully controllable is moisture.

Wooden Flooring Is Not Terribly Expensive

Wooden floors can certainly be pricey, just like any product of quality. They're generally not the most expensive floors, though. One thing that can affect the prices of wooden floors, as well as anything else wooden or, really, anything else that comes directly from a natural source, is your area. There are many aesthetic considerations, too, that really aren't much of an issue with other flooring types, such as how much scarring adds character, and how much is just too much. Be sure that you're comparing similar quality products if it seems that wooden floors are strangely expensive. It's very easy to accidentally compare to a lower quality floor if you don't do your research.

Wooden Flooring Is Bad For The Environment

This is one of the biggest myths surrounding wooden floors and, ironically, is also the furthest from the truth. We all know that wood comes from trees, and that, in recent years, trees have been disappearing at an alarming rate. Well, this is what we think we know, anyway, because we see trees being bulldozed and hear all the reports of doom from the media. The truth is, there was actually less standing hardwood timber fifty years ago. This is due to careful management of forests that are grown specifically for this purpose. No other type of flooring comes directly from a resource that can be, and is, simply regrown.

Wooden Flooring Is Even Good For Allergies

To those who have carpet, it seems whenever they go into a home that has wooden flooring, they're attacked by both dust and, if there are pets, pet dander. It's ironic that this is really more of a sign that wooden floors are actually healthier than carpet, especially for allergy sufferers. This is because pretty much anything that can inhabit the air can also inhabit carpet. This includes, but is not limited to, dust mites, mold, and the toxins that we gather on our clothes and selves every day. With wooden flooring, all you have to do is sweep, and the floor is clean. Unlike most floors, wooden flooring itself is almost impervious to any contamination.
